Who we are
Ookla’s mission is centered on improving connectivity and customer network experience through industry-leading data, tools, and insights that transparently answer the questions at the heart of telecommunications.
But our identity is about more than what we build. We believe that achieving great things starts with fostering a workplace that puts people first, from our employees to the end users of the networks for which we advocate.
Ookla is a subsidiary of Ziff Davis (NASDAQ: ZD), a vertically-focused digital media and internet company whose portfolio includes leading brands in technology, entertainment, shopping, health, cybersecurity, and martech.
What we do
Ookla started with Speedtest®. We’ll always care deeply about speed and making connectivity faster, but that’s just the start of what we have to offer.
Our work touches every group that cares about improving network connectivity and, most importantly, the customer network experience. This includes consumers seeking actionable information about their personal connections; operators seeking to measure, optimize, and publicize their networks; governments and regulatory bodies mapping network availability for their constituents and promoting policy that improves access; non-profits, NGOs, and other humanitarian organizations striving to close the digital divide; and many more.
When you work at Ookla, you have the unique opportunity to work with our world-renowned Speedtest and Downdetector® platforms, along with a growing suite of end-to-end enterprise solutions that collectively serve hundreds of millions of users worldwide. You will utilize your skills to continue to develop and maintain our flagship enterprise products, consumer experiences, and expansive network intelligence. Working at Ookla means using these data and insights to further our mission and drive meaningful understanding and change to improve connectivity accessibility for all.

At Ookla, we care deeply about each other and what we do, and this is reflected in our work and our culture.

Our application process
Curious what happens after you hit “submit” on your application? Depending on the position you apply for, certain elements of the process may vary slightly. However, Ookla’s interview and hiring process follows these standard guidelines. Here’s what you can generally expect:
Review
Our team reviews applications based on a framework of specific skills and criteria tailored for each individual role.
Intro to Ookla
If we identify a potential fit in our review process, one of our Recruiters will schedule a phone call to offer an overview of the position and gauge interest of both parties.
Role-specific interview
If the goals of each party align, an initial interview is scheduled between the candidate and a hiring manager or team lead. They will assess your skill set and have a chance to get to know you. This may be a technical interview where you demonstrate coding skills, or it may be conversational to learn more about your specific expertise for the role. Some interviews may include an additional skill demonstration or assigned task related to the job responsibilities of the open position.
Interview loop
The next step consists of an in-depth interview loop including four to five sessions with employees from departments across the organization with which you will closely interact. You will meet with one to two people at a time where we cover a variety of skills needed for the role in more depth and detail. We believe the interview process goes both ways and welcome any questions you have about what working at Ookla is like.
Offer
After we privately draft individual feedback from the interview process, we meet as a team to discuss the candidate. During this process, we monitor biases to fairly and transparently evaluate the candidate’s opportunities for growth, potential, and fit. If we determine you are a match for the team and role, we will make you a competitive offer. Within a couple of days of your final interview, you can expect us to contact you with the outcome of our decision.
Open Roles
If you’re excited about joining the work we’re doing, we welcome your application and encourage applicants with both traditional and non-traditional experience that makes them an excellent candidate for the role.
We strongly believe diversity of all kinds makes us better. We are an equal opportunity employer actively working to build an inclusive workforce at all levels of the company.
We want to ensure candidates have everything they need throughout our application and hiring process. If you have any individual needs related to disability or accessibility, please reach out to recruiting@ookla.com and let us know how we can best accommodate you.
